Page 1 Footpath. A Photographic Journey on the Appalachian Trail
A meandering footpath winds its way up the East Coast. It beckons to be walked by avid backpackers, wandering hearts and lost souls.
In its basic essence, it is just a footpath. The trail is not always a sentimental walk in the woods with beautiful sunsets and endless vistas. Sometimes a small, winding trail through the woods, other times a dirt or paved road traveled by more than just hiking boots. It treks through forests, climbs over mountains and fords rivers. It wanders down small town streets, through cornfields and across ridge lines.
On the trail, one choice can change the entire course of the journey. These photos make no attempts to say how the trail should be hiked. This is just my story and the way I saw my constantly changing surroundings. I took photos every single day on my thru- hike and when my camera died, I used my hiking partner's camera. Here are some of the best images from each state. I took over 12,000 photos and these images document my adventure and the choices I made. The best motto on the trail puts it simply: Hike Your Own Hike. Harvest GA>ME 08
